This is Smathers Beach in Key West, Florida, a beautiful beach enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. When you come to visit you will often see weddings on this beach, along with many outdoor activities such as volleyball and parasailing. This particular scene is a wedding spot favorite.
It is all in the detail. My work is a combination of realism and folk art, showing the laid back and colorful island life in which I was raised. I strive to add energy to my paintings by including people, animals, birds, that are all a part of my Conch upbringing. I not only endeavor to portray my life as a child growing up in Key West, but also the island as it exists today through the eyes of the many people who visit throughout the year. In my latest work, you will see Key West as it was long-ago. In walking the neighborhoods I am reminded of how things once were.
